OppenheimerFunds’ CEO Art Steinmetz was clearly enjoying himself at what some have described as the “geekiest” event of the year—the “Chaos Ball,” a fundraiser for the National Museum of Mathematics. Steinmetz, who is a member of the museum’s board, joined money management billionaires, string theorists, theoretical physicists and other numbers-obsessives in watching a chaos theory experiment involving five metronomes. Actor and science enthusiast Alan Alda and a mathematician also entertained the brainy crowd with a chat about chaos theory. The event raised $830,000 for the museum.
