The Rochester Credit Research Team

The 11 members of Oppenheimer Rochester’s inhouse credit research team spend their days evaluating investing opportunities. As they scour the market for currently available municipal bonds, the credit analysts look for securities that have the potential to deliver competitive levels of tax-free income with the lowest possible credit risk. We believe that the shareholders in our 20 municipal bond funds benefit from this research-intensive approach.

The credit research team, which is led by Richard Stein, CFA, analyzes offering statements, makes recommendations to the portfolio management team and continually monitors the creditworthiness of the funds’ holdings. The team works to identify securities that it believes are likely to have favorable risk/reward trade-offs over the long term and employs stringent credit criteria. The team, in conjunction with the portfolio management team, seeks to mitigate various types of risk inherent in municipal bonds, including idiosyncratic risk, call and reinvestment risk, interest rate risk, geographic risk and the special risks of investing in lower-grade securities.

Each analyst has sector-specific expertise, which allows Oppenheimer Rochester to create portfolios with a diversity of holdings. Unlike some of our competitors, who make sector calls and then look for suitable bonds in those sectors, we take a bond-centric approach. Further details about the credit research team’s work can be found in Rochester’s Annual Overview.
